2009 MN MS 150 Photos

This one is off-topic, but cool nonetheless. Last weekend was the Larkin Hoffman MS 150 running from Proctor, MN to Nowthen, MN. I went along as a driver; what better way to spend my weekend than waking up earlier than I do during the week, then alternating between sitting in a car and standing alongside a trail in the middle of nonewhere rural Minnesota. All kidding aside, it was a great experience. Virtually everyone was friendly, probably because we were all out there supporting a great cause.

A huge thanks goes out to everyone who participated in the event. It is truly amazing how much good a couple thousand people can do in a weekend, fiscally and spiritually. You raised money, awareness, and hope that we will soon have a cure for this devastating condition.

As usual, I shot a ton of photos this weekend. Consider it my way of saying thanks for all of your hard work. My primary job this weekend was being in the right place at the right time for a couple of lovely ladies; so most of my photo coverage is of the riders that were generally in the same place as they were. If I didn't get a shot of you, I apologize. If you saw me get a shot of you (I was the guy wearing a black ball cap and flip flops all weekend) and you can't find it here, my camera apologizes; the photo probably turned out too blurry to be worthwhile.

If I didn't get a shot of you, someone else probably did, I saw lots of other people carrying around cameras. If you know of any other galleries hosting photos from this weekend. Please let me know and I will happily post a link here.

Kim Morris Photography - The pro outfit that covered the event for the MS Society. They have a ton of photos, but they're going to cost you. Fortunately a portion of their sales makes its way back to the MS Society, so it's not all bad.

About Inlinepics.com

We come in peace, take us to your leader. Aspirations of world domination aside, I'm just a computer nerd with a digital camera and a girlfriend who likes to race inline marathons.
After several years, I finally bought myself a pair of skates; but judging from the first couple of attempts I think I have a way to go before I start doing crazy things like marathons. This means that I get to be a cheerleader (without the pom-poms and skirt, you don't want that). Bringing my camera along seemed like a great idea, that way my better half could have some awesome pictures to show for her troubles, without paying an outrageous price to get them from the action sports pros.

Not wanting to end up with some crumby snapshot, I started playing around, practicing to find that perfect shot. What better to practice on than the skaters whizzing by me in droves. So I end up with a ton of pictures that I have no real reason to keep. This gets the gears turning and I realize, "I bet that there are a bunch of people in these pictures who would love to have them." So I put the entire collection on the Internet, dropped a few notes that there are pictures to be had, and watched my web server come under attack by the masses; I guess demand was higher than I thought.

While inlinepics.com has gone through a number of revisions, the purpose has remained the same. To provide inline skaters with memories at no cost to them. I am not trying to put the professionals out of business; they are far more talented than I am, they have better access, equipment, publicity, and they are going to get better shots than I do. I don't make a dime from this website; I think of it as a hobby.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ok, so maybe not all of these have been asked frequently. Maybe I just want to head of some of them and give you some information.

Are all the photos on the site freely available?

Yes, and they always will be.

Can I get the full size version of a particular file?

Yes, either contact me (see below) or add inlinepics.com as a contact in Flickr (then you can access all of the originals).

Can I use/license your photos for my team website or some other use?

I would be honored. I use a Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike Creative Commons license for all of my inlinepics.com photos. This means you can reuse my photos for non-commerical purposes provided you give me cred (attribution in a photo caption is sufficient) and license any derivative works with the same licence. I also appreciate when you let me know where you are using my work, shoot me an email! I am not opposed to my photos being used in commercial works, but you must contact me for approval.

I want to contribute! What do I do?

I welcome all contributors to inlinepics.com! There are a couple of ways your contributions can be added to the site. If you send me your photos (contact me for details) I can upload them to the inlinepics.com flickr account. Otherwise, if you prefer to upload them to your own account on flickr (or the photo gallery of your choice), I would be happy to link to your site from the www.inlinepics.com homepage. With inlinepics.com, you retain complete control over your contributions; meaning that if you have a change of heart in the future and do not want your photos shown/linked here, I will remove them, no questions asked. My only stipulation is that you may not use contributions to the site for monetary gain. If you want to sell your photos, please post them elsewhere.

I love your site, can I contribute financially?

As crazy as it sounds, no. I run this site as a hobby. I do not want any of the headaches that come with operating a for-profit website. That said, if you see me at a marathon, I would love a beer!

I have an idea for the site, I want to contribute, I want to complain, I have some other question, who do I contact?

Migrating old posts

I am migrating the posts from the old website to the blog. Some of the links in the old entries will probably break during the transition and I will forget to fix them. If you notice a broken link, please let me know!

Inlinepics.com is moving

Welcome to the new inlinepics.com blog. This blog will eventually replace the current www.inlinepics.com website that I started nearly two years ago.

There are a number of reasons for this move, but they all basically boil down to two reasons; I am lazy and cheap. The current CMS that I am using to publish the frontpage is a big complex monster that is complete overkill for my little site. It has lots of functionality behind the scenes that I don't use and really just confuses me because I don't use it frequently enough. The CMS software also needs to be updated occasionally, and while it's not a hard process; it never really gets done. I spend my day working on technology, and coming home to work on it some more is usually about the last thing that I want to do.

I also would like to migrate away from my current hosting company. Nothing against the host, they have actually been very good to me. I just don't like paying the bill. Granted I don't pay very much, but a free blog combined with a flickr pro account is a heck of a lot cheaper.

I know that this switch will probably break some things on the web, including links to content pages I created for previous races; but for a web site that serves only as a hobby for me, I'm not going to lose too much sleep. I will do my best to move all of the old pictures from the old site to the new site, those are what really matter anyways.

2008 North Shore Inline Marathon

After some technical difficulties with the website, I now have my photo set for the 2008 North Shore Inline Marathon.

The photo set is somewhat smaller than last year (~400 photos) due to Bobbi finishing the race considerably faster than last year (I knew you could do it babe!). Due to time constraints for me, the set also has not been sorted, other than to remove badly blurred shots and other garbage pics.

Click here to view the photo set for the 2008 North Shore Inline Marathon.

If you have any questions, please contact me, tom@inlinepics.com. Thanks for visiting!

2008 Racing Season

As you may have noticed, I have not added any photo sets for the 2008 season. As I am sure is the case with everyone, we have been very busy this summer and have not made it to any races so far. We are hoping to make it to a couple of marathons this year; NSIM for sure, and hopefully to SPIM too. Just because I haven't put any pictures online doesn't mean that I'm ignoring the site; read on.

I have been making some changes behind the scenes. I have recently moved the site from my server at home to a hosting account. This should hopefully improve the load speeds for you as you browse the gallery. The hosting account has more disk space and bandwidth than I can possibly use, so feel free to upload all the event photos that you want. If you have any questions or difficulties with the site, let me know so I can get things working for you.

Also, if there are any races near the twin cities this summer, give me a heads-up and I will try to show up with a camera. If you're driving and wouldn't mind a hitchhiker I am even more open to coming along.

I appreciate all the positive comments that people have made about the site. Without you, I wouldn't have anything to take pictures of and this site wouldn't exist. Thanks!
